Why the rush?

Are we seeing an increase in investigations of wrongdoing amongst elected officials? .... Or is it, as some will claim, a witch hunt for political reasons? Shouldn’t our law makers abide by the same laws an average citizen is required to follow?

We seem to be seeing the neo-conservative movement pushing to overreach their authority in passing laws in every state where they now hold the majority. In some states they have removed duly elected officials and are now privatizing local government boards. In others, they disregarded open meeting laws to force the legislation that was on their agendas.

The citizens want. and deserve, answers to their questions and are being told to shut up. Our officials are saying we are in power and will do as we please. The people are left with no recourse other than to press for an investigation. This option is available to every citizen not just to the party in control; this is how democracy works for everyone.

If there is corruption in our government why should we allow it? No matter which party we back, not fighting it allows it to continue unchecked. If you can’t get the laws you want without using illegal tactics how can they be good laws?

I welcome these investigations into the misuse of the office and staff of those elected to represent the people. If it is proven that these charges are true, even those who are given immunity should be barred from ever holding a state job or an elected office again. While they may not have to face prison time they should pay for their actions. They have earned the distrust of the people.
